Jason Garrett on Tony Romo: We’ll take the situation day by day
Prescott has been superb in the Cowboys’ three preseason games, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions and two rushing touchdowns. The Dallas Cowboys’ bye occurs in Week 7 of the 2016 National Football League regular season.
However, an MRI result on Friday revealed that Tony Romo indeed have a back damage. Romo doesn’t need surgery, but the injury will cause him to miss between 6-10 weeks as he rests and rehabs. Coach Jason Garrett, so far, is unwilling to concede that injured quarterback Tony Romo won’t be on the field for that Week 1 home game against the New York Giants. I think a lot of that is people outside of this building have suggested what the timetable is.
But Garrett sticks to his public stance that they will take Romo’s situation day by day like they do every other player.
The world the Cowboys do live in at the moment, regardless of what Garrett says publicly, is that the team will go into the season with a rookie quarterback.
Veteran quarterback, Tony Romo will not be available for the first half of the season and the Cowboys must be prepared for this unforeseen circumstance. Romo, 36, has played in 16 games in only four of his nine seasons as the team’s starter.
“Adversity is a part of the game”. Their odds to win before the news on Romo were 20/1, which was also the number their opened at when the Super Bowl lines were released back in February. You come to work the next day and you put the next guy in there and if everyone will focus on doing their job, that’s the best way to create a good environment for someone who’s coming in to play.
“I think the biggest thing for all of us is focus on doing our jobs, ” Garrett said.
“Dak has done a nice job since he’s been with us”, Garrett said. “I think our team feels good about Dak”.
Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott is now the franchise’s backup and has had an outstanding preseason debut. “He wants to take full advantage of the opportunity”.
