Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is facing an unhappy spell on the fringes of the first team after being left out of the club’s Europa League squad.

Schweinsteiger made his final appearance for Germany in a 2-0 friendly victory over Finland in Moenchengladbach on Wednesday after announcing his retirement from worldwide football in July.
Schweinsteiger has the likes of Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin and world-record signing Paul Pogba as competition for a role at Old Trafford.
The German had stated on the eve of his 121st and final global appearance for Germany on Tuesday that it was still his “absolute dream” to help United this season. “That’s not a problem for us”, the newly appointed manager was quoted as saying by BBC. Man United have 22 with the former Germany global.
United could only count forwards Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard as “club trained” so a maximum squad of 23 could be named, along with four Under-21 players in Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Tuanzebe.
The Red Devils get their Europa League campaign started with an away clash with Feyenoord on September 15.
