No Cong, No AAP, Sidhu forms new party – Awaaz-e-Punjab
AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab-Giving an end to the speculations about Navjot Sidhu’s induction into AAP fold, his wife Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu has posted a Poster on her Facebook account announcing the launch of a new political platform in Punjab.
The state of Punjab will go for assembly polls next year.
The outfit named as Aawaaz-e-Punjab will be formally launched next week.
Meanwhile, AAP members said Sidhu had not given a definitive response to the party after he was offered the role of a star campaigner.
With AAP at its weakest in the state due to infighting following the expulsion of its Punjab unit chief Sucha Singh Chhotepur, it is also learnt that the new front is trying to poach the removed leader.
Sidhu resigned from Rajya Sabha on 18 July and reportedly remarked, “With the closure of every window leading to Punjab, the goal stands defeated”.
Last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that Sidhu had not put any pre-conditions on joining the AAP and needed time to think over the issue.
Sidhu was caught in a peculiar situation ever since he resigned as a nominated Rajya Sabha MP of the BJP. They said in the party’s poster that the front will “raise its voice against those who have destroyed Punjab”.
Joining him in the new party are ex-hockey player Pargat Singh and Bains brothers.
Wishing luck to the new party, Vadakkan said the grand old party is very happy that what has happened is essentially part of a democratic process. Navjot had previously hinted that he will open new power equations in Punjab and will seek the help of MLA Pargat Singh, Former Congress MLA Ramanjeet Sekki, and other similar likeminded people. The former cricketer had the same grouse against BJP which he alleged was asking him not to get involved in Punjab politics and instead work for promoting BJP on a national scale. He is well on his way out of Punjab’s ruling party Akali Dal.
