Nick Kyrgios quits US Open in tears
The Australian star, who is ranked No. 16 in the world retired due to a hip injury he had been nursing since the US Open began.
NICK Kyrgios, you are still your own worst enemy.
McEnroe has been critical and complimentary of Kyrgios in equal measure since the 21-year-old’s emergence as one of tennis’s hottest prospects.
‘It’s tough. I don’t like to retire.
His injury is not an excuse.
Rasheed said the amateur decision would easily have been avoided if Kyrgios had a coach to drill some sense into him.
“He complained about this in his very first match of the tournament”. “I’m really sorry for Nick”.
“It’s nearly just as hard mentally to play with something like that”, he said. If you’ve got an issue there, you are not on the court playing doubles, which potentially could go for 2-3 hours.
American tennis legend John McEnroe had a different explanation for Kyrgios’ struggles.
Hewitt knows Kyrgios is an outside chance to play in the Davis Cup.
“To be fair, my hip was bothering me my first two matches and I got through”.
“It seems to be an injury that isn’t really there until a little bit of fatigue sets into the joint and then all of a sudden it exaggerates”, he said. “Just give us everything”. A year ago he lashed Kyrgios for his “bonehead” tactics during a first-round loss to Andy Murray at Flushing Meadows, while he also took aim at the world No16 at Wimbledon.

With seemingly no plans to heed McEnroe’s advice, Kyrgios is pledging to learn from his bitterly disappointing US Open experience. It hands Marchenko a fourth round tie with the number three seed Stan Wawrinka, who survived a match point against him to win in five sets against Britain’s Dan Evans.
“My sights were set on some great things this week”. At Montreal a year ago, Kyrgios was fined and given a provisional suspension for making a lewd sexual slur over Wawrinka’s girlfriend, tour player Donna Vekic. “F****** sucks. #liveandlearn”, he posted on social media. “Goodluck to everyone still going”.
This was meant to be Kyrgios’ big moment – under the Saturday night lights and the new roof at Arthur Ashe Stadium. “I don’t want to play any more”, Kyrgios said.
“He’s hurt because he’s not training enough”.
Despite McEnroe’s criticism, Kyrgios attributed the injury to training and playing overload.
Later in the day, Nick was left in tears after injury forced him to withdraw from the US Open.
Kyrgios started out strongly, winning the first set 4-6, but he dropped the next two, his pain becoming increasingly obvious.
“I stopped rushing in the rallies and was making quite a few unforced errors”, Murray said. “Hopefully I get better in time”. I didn’t want to win this way.
“It’s unfair”, the Australian captain told AAP on Monday.
