Trump Foundation fined $2500 by IRS
Now, the Post reports that Trump paid $2,500 to the IRS for violating tax laws that prohibit a nonprofit from making political donations.
Bondi was considering whether to investigate complaints that Trump University had duped unsuspecting consumers at the time.
The Washington Post revealed the improper donation was a gift from the Donald J. Trump Foundation to Attorney General Pam Bondi at a time when she was considering whether to investigate fraud allegations against Trump University. All of this raises questions that Trump and Bondi should answer about the timing of the contribution and the decision to not take legal action against Trump U. The most generous reading is that both Trump and Bondi showed poor judgment, and one of those two is running for the highest office in the land.
“I never spoke to her, first of all; she’s a fine person beyond reproach”.
“Donald Trump has been falsely attacking the charity run by President Clinton when it is Trump’s own Foundation that has been caught in an actual pay-to-play scandal”, Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, said in a statement posted on the campaign’s website.
Despite that fact, the watchdog group behind the news, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, says the Trump Foundation should still get the money back from Bondi’s group.
“Many of the attorney generals turned that case down because I’ll win that case in court”, he said.
Asked by reporters what he expected to receive in return for his donation, Trump said that he and Bondi have known each other for years.
Trump Foundation controller Jeffrey McConney described the donation as “an honest mistake” in an interview with the Washington Post. “It wasn’t done intentionally to hide a political donation, it was just an error”.
