Cam Newton: I Took Super Bowl Loss ‘Extremely Personal’
He hasn’t talked much about the Super Bowl loss or his post-game press conference since, avoiding most questions related to the game by spinning them toward the upcoming season.
“I think the very first thing I did was I pointed to the Broncos”, Rivera said.
“We only have a week [to prepare] where other teams will have 10 days that you kind of need to have, ” Rivera said.
The Panthers aren’t fully in the clear, but head coach Ron Rivera is pleased that no players on the 53-man roster had to sit out all of practice Monday, with Thursday’s season opener at the Denver Broncos looming.
“A lot of people want to make it a rematch, it’s not a rematch”.
Newton had a league-high 45 combined touchdowns in a memorable 2015 regular season and added five more in the NFC playoffs. “I’m totally comfortable in the no-fly zone’s ability to play the pass this game”.
A reporter’s question about how much Newton watched the video of the Super Bowl game seemingly touched a nerve. I believe Von Miller already told everybody: [These are] new teams.
The Broncos sacked Newton six times in the Super Bowl, two of those resulting in turnovers leading to 14 Denver points.
The chase for Super Bowl LI begins Thursday. We’ll be locked and loaded and ready to go on Thursday. Miller said did it only because he has vast respect for Newton, whom he called “the best player in the league”.
It would be asking a huge amount to repeat those phenomenal 15-1 exploits but their three rivals in the NFC South have plenty to prove themselves so even a drop-off of three or four games should still see them comfortably home and hosed into the post-season. Even Peyton Manning plans be there.
With all of the emotion surrounding the game, Rivera said it will be “interesting to see” how Newton performs. “Remember that he missed a whole year”, Rivera said.
Roby said the rest of the country may view the Broncos as a one-hit wonder, but he’s pretty sure the Broncos can sustain their dominance and carry the team to another trophy regardless of who’s throwing the ball to Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas. “He has an opportunity to play well and go out and show what he’s made of”.
“This game isn’t about channeling our revenge”.
When Newton posted a picture of himself playing water polo with the USA national team in April, Miller photo-shopped himself in knocking yet another ball out of the QB’s right hand. “The type of player that he is, the type of quarterback that he is, he is able to get his teammates to play at a level they would not normally play at”. “At the same time we did a lot of things that were uncharacteristic of ourselves”.
