Delhi, Gurgaon & Hyderabad witness Heavy Rainfall
Delhi and Gurgaon woke up to heavy rains and a darkened sky on Wednesday morning, which brought massive traffic jams during the peak hours. All flights were delayed at the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport due to the heavy rainfall, with one flight diverted to Jaipur.
The Gurgaon traffic police has issued advisory asking people to be patient and navigate roads with discipline.
According to the MeT department, thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain would occur over many places in northwest, south and southeast NCR and Delhi.
Meanwhile, Telangana municipal administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao tweeted that he is monitoring the Hyderabad rains and the resultant situation with Mayor Rammohan and GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) Commissioner.
The MET department predicted more rains in the next three days well.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, whose visits to religious sites in Delhi were cancelled, joked at IIT: “You guys deserve an award for getting here today.
Heavy rain also disrupted traffic at Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram, Haryana.
Gurgaon witnessed waterlogging and traffic snarls. Waterlogging was reported in several areas, including Sheetla Mata Mandir road, Palam Vihar, Golf Course road, Old Delhi road and the service lanes of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The weather office further said that the maximum and minimum temperature on Tuesday would hover around 34 and 26 degrees Celcius respectively.
Traffic was slow at ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Ridge Road, Mayapuri flyover, Madhuban Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan and Nizamuddin area, among other areas.
Policemen were also seen pushing the broken-down vehicles in 2 to 3 feet water. He reached the venue an hour late.
