Hermine expected to weaken as it lingers offshore
WOW was it WINDY last night. Chris Christie of New Jersey, who on Saturday declared emergencies for three counties.
Hermine was classified as a Category 1 hurricane when it slammed into Florida’s Gulf Coast on Friday. “It was frightful”, she said. But as of Friday, she had had no reports of injuries, extensive flooding, or major property damage, she said.
“Just because it’s a post-tropical cyclone doesn’t mean the impact of tropical force winds, winds in general and storm surge go away”, cautioned National Hurricane Center spokesman Dennis Feltgen.
The forecast track has Hermine meandering to our south through early Thursday.
Two people have died in the storm. Tree-cutting services such as Doug Stiff’s were soon busy around town. Thousands of homes and businesses lost power.
This storm is not like some of the other big ones such as Sandy, where we saw actual gasoline shortages develop, but it could amount to something significant, if it lingers. According to the company, the storm affected more than 220,000 of its customers in 31 counties, but by midnight Sunday, all affected customers had had their power restored.
In another tweet posted Monday, McHugh said that the seas were “much better this morning”. Tallahassee operates its own utilities.
He adds it will not make landfall. Yes, there was some minor flooding and winds of up to 32 miles per hour, but there were no major problems reported. Most of California and the Great Basin stayed dry on Tuesday.
“But this is not the last one that’s going to hit Florida, given what’s happening in the climate”, Clinton continued ominously.
Moisture associated with Hurricane Newton began to surge across the Southwest.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, Hermine’s top sustained winds strengthened to 70 miles per hour (110 kph) as it moved east-northeast at 10 miles per hour (17 kph).
The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Newton has strengthened into a hurricane.
Hermine (her-MEEN) caused two deaths, damaged properties, closed beaches as far north as NY, and left hundreds of thousands without electricity from Florida to Virginia.
Tri-state residents should be aware that it will take a few days for all flood waters to recede, as the storms is not set to pull away until at least Tuesday night. Cloudy, with a high near 75. This lead to the development of rain and thunderstorms in southeast Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas.
“The storm is likely to produce over 50,000 claims, primarily to residential properties and autos, and spread across the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and SC”, notes a statement from KCC, which provides catastrophe loss estimation and risk management services.
