Golovkin overpowers Brook to retain middleweight titles
Gennady Golovkin retained his WBC and IBF middleweight belts with a fifth-round stoppage of Britain’s Kell Brook on Saturday.
Coming into the fight many had predicted a win for “GGG” and he obliged after one hell of a fight. I don’t think it’s going to be a walk in the park and I think Kell Brook will give a good account of himself.
“I think Golovkin is the biggest puncher I’ve ever seen, pound for pound, although Brook is a very skilful fighter, in his own right”.
Man United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is amongst a star-studded line up of celebrities likely to attend Gennady Golovkin’s titanic clash with Kell Brook, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.
However, with his right eye closing, Brook began to take some serious punishment in the fourth round and again in the fifth when trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel to prevent his man suffering serious injury. Well, Alvarez made a U-turn and agreed to fight Golovkin next September.
Brook, who was greeted by a rapturous reception, went into the contest full of confidence and in the best shape of his life. When the Golovkin offer came in, he jumped at the chance, with little to lose.
Even so, Brook had vowed to shock the world and write his name into the history books with one of boxing’s biggest – and most unlikely – victories.
This fight presents both boxers with their biggest challegenge.
Here is our live coverage of Golovkin vs. Brook.
The heavy-hitter stalked his prey and unloaded his thudding punches seemingly at will.
He said Brook had never hurt him. Golovkin cutting off the ring nicely.
And the inevitable happened when the title-holder moved in for the kill, sensing Brook was there for the taking.
