Donald Trump’s Long Embrace Of Vladimir Putin
Mr Trump was interviewed on Thursday night by Larry King, a former CNN host who now presents a show on RT America, a Russian-funded TV network. “Michael McFaul, a former US ambassador to Russian Federation, slammed Trump for the appearance, tweeting: “[Ronald] Reagan never gave interviews to Pravda while campaigning to be our president.
After McMullin was pressed to provide evidence for his claims, the third party candidate pointed to Trump’s campaign appointments and hiring, including former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was forced to resign amid scrutiny of his relationship with the former pro-Moscow government in Ukraine.
Speaking to CBS, campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said that Trump “was doing it as a favor to his friend Larry King”.
Trump, who has often praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, made the comments in an interview with former CNN broadcaster Larry King, whose podcast was aired on Thursday night, September 8, on the RT network, a 24-hour news channel that broadcasts in both English and Russian. “The man has very strong control over a country”, Trump said.
Yet the Republican nominee’s operation on Thursday indicated no discomfort with the mounting criticism, with Trump running mate Mike Pence echoing the distinction made between Putin and Obama.
“I think it’s inarguable that Vladimir Putin has been a stronger leader in his country than Barack Obama has been in this country”.
“He said one nice thing about me”.
“When he calls me brilliant, I’ll take the compliment”, he said at MSNBC/NBC’s Commander-in-Chief forum.
“I think it’s probably unlikely”, he said.
“He’s been a leader”.
“He’s not too much of a factor”, Trump said.
Trump’s appearance on the controversial television station could exacerbate an already icy relationship with the US political press.
Russian Federation has been a regular topic of conversation throughout the presidential campaign.
“Putin said some very good things about me”, Trump said at a rally in OH on August 1. He said I’m a genius.
To be clear, Putin is still viewed unfavorably by a majority of Trump supporters and of Republicans generally. “I just say this way, wouldn’t it be great if the United States and Russian Federation got along, combined, knocked out ISIS, maybe did other positive things?”
