Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz don special cleats for 9/11
On Sunday, they’ll be wearing them on their feet.
While some NFL players have made headlines this preseason for protesting the national anthem, the Giants’ star wide receivers will pay tribute to the country with their footwear in Sunday’s season opener at Dallas. Both players have a pair of pregame and in-game cleats with patriotic themes.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Cruz and Beckham will wear specially-designed cleats both during warmups and during the game, all of which were designed by Kickasso like Picasso.
“Cruz’s pregame cleats sport a decal reading “FDNY”, in tribute to the New York City Fire Department”.
Meanwhile, on the video board before the game, President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush will deliver a cohesive speech that recognizes those lost in the attacks 15 years ago. Bush will toss the coin at midfield before the Giants-Cowboys game, accompanied by his wife Laura Bush and two NYPD officers who responded to the attacks. This will certainly be a welcomed sight for Giants fans that will be watching at home with the New York Jets playing in MetLife stadium on September 11. That was on the 10th anniversary in 2011 when they faced Washington in an opening-day game.
The Giants might not be at home on Sunday, but home will certainly be in their minds on what will be an emotional Sunday.
