Canada WestJet plane declares emergency, lands in Iceland

A flight going from London Gatwick to Edmonton in Canada on Saturday morning was forced to make an emergency landing at Keflavik International Airport in Iceland.
The Canadian airline revealed that a “potential mechanical issue” was identified by crew on flight WS27.
According to the AviationNews24 Twitter account, the flight experienced a left engine warning light about two hours after takeoff. Emergency landing on @WestJet flight.
WestJet spokeswoman Lauren Stewart said that declaring an emergency “does not necessarily mean an actual emergency has occurred”, and is a measure taken “out of an abundance of caution”.
“We are now making arrangements for hotels and meal vouchers”.
“WestJet sincerely apologises to our guests for the inconvenience and thanks them for their patience”.
It was due to land at its destination at 12:59 in Edmonton. The flight was flying over the North Atlantic ocean before it landed at KEF.
