Chelsea New Boys Unlikely To Start Against Swansea Hints Antonio Conte

Luiz has divided opinion ever since Chelsea first signed him from Benfica nearly six years ago, and Jose Mourinho sold him to Paris Saint Germain in 2014.

The Brazilian completed a shock £34 million return to Stamford Bridge on deadline day, two years after leaving for Paris Saint-Germain in a £50m deal.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Hazard said: “Conte puts trust in his players and now we are good after an ugly season a year ago”.

“When we take the decision about the players, we always take the decision together – me and the club”, Conte said. Whether he will line up in defence or in a holding midfield role remains to be seen, and Luiz is ready to fill in wherever needed.

Chelsea, second in the standings, have won their opening three league games this season while Swansea are 14th following one win and two defeats. However, instead of bringing in a brand new face, the Blues made a decision to welcome back a former fan favourite in David Luiz.

“He played in England (for Bolton and Sunderland) and for this reason he has a good experience of this league”.

“It’s good to have that spirit back and we are looking to improve on that front”. He has to work with us as a centre-back.

He added: ‘I think a great defender must be able to play football.

The 29 year-old’s arrival does give Conte another option if he wants to set Chelsea up in one of his preferred formations – 3-5-2 – now he has centre-backs Luiz, John Terry and Gary Cahill fit and available.

“To improve your players and to work”. This is the most important thing for me, not only to win, lose or draw – to improve your players, to work on their weaknesses, and make the player stronger.

While the 2014-15 Premier League champions travel to Swansea on Sunday, Manchester United and Manchester City face off in their first derby of the season on Saturday.

“But I think and I hope at the end of the season five or six teams can fight for the title”.

The players think the same as me – we would prefer to play the Champions League.
