Antonio Conte Backs David Luiz To Become One Of The World’s Best
Luiz, who surprisingly returned to Stamford Bridge last week for £32m, has divided opinion since Chelsea first signed him from Benfica nearly six years ago, and Jose Mourinho sold him to Paris Saint Germain in 2014.
“He was in that position at Bolton and he is big and tall and strong physically but I remember he is very good technically and he is a great guy”.
FC’s Craig Burley reacts to Antonio Conte’s comment saying David Luiz can be one of the world’s best defenders.
“I told you that this transfer market was very hard for us to reach our targets, but at the last minute, on the last day, there was this situation which was good for me and the club to improve the squad”.
Initially expected to be sidelined for around six months after undergoing surgery to fix the damage, Zouma’s recovery has taken longer than anticipated and Chelsea’s deadline day signings of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso have led some to suggest that the 21-year-old does not feature prominently in Conte’s plans.
“I think that every player, up until the end of their career, can improve”, he told a news conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Swansea.
“David is back and it is very easy for him to slot straight into the dressing room – Cahill believes – He knows the majority of the players and the staff and he is very familiar with the surroundings”.
“I know when you are 32, 33, 36, you always can improve. I don’t want to see any problems with my players, also”. I tell you this from my experience as a footballer.
“I think that the coach must improve his players”.
“I see great commitment from him”.
The only problem for Chelsea is when to bring Zouma back. But he needs more time to come back.
Having excelled in Conte’s tactical and fitness sessions, Chalobah is faced with his first opportunity to make a mark on the first team squad.
“But we needed centre-backs so, for that reason, we bought him”. Conte was also quick to play down suggestions Luiz could be used in midfield, a role he sometimes filled for PSG.
“I think this squad can play 3-4-3, not 3-5-2 like the national team in Italy and Juventus but, because of the characteristics of the players, we can play 3-4-3”.
