Donald Trump voters ‘basket of deplorables’, says Hillary Clinton
Clinton has recently reached out to Republicans wary of Trump.
While most of the Clinton campaign has been devoted to creating negative views of Trump, this new turn focuses on his supporters, which is being questioned in such a tight race.
Trump’s release was followed the next day by a release from the campaign of the Democratic nominee.
But word of the slight blew up online Saturday, as her comments were more widely circulated. She and affiliated committees had $152 million, compared to Trump’s $97 million, as the campaign told the Wall Street Journal this week. “I’ve already said he is really very much of a leader”.
Trump argued later Tuesday during a rally that Clinton’s email use and her handling of classified information is “disqualifying”. “So I am proud of the people who are supporting me”.
Clinton then pivoted and tried to characterized the other half of Trump’s supporters, putting them in “that other basket” and saying they need understanding and empathy.
“Now, some of those folks-they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America”, she continued, echoing both President Barack Obama’s gaffe during the 2008 campaign about how some Americans “cling to guns or religion”, and Mitt Romney’s in 2012 about the “47 percent” of Americans who he portrayed as hopelessly dependent on the government.
“These names were added following Wednesday’s Commander-In-Chief Forum, showing Mr. Trump has the respect and trust from a number of military leaders across all branches of service”, the campaign said in its statement.
It is also part of a national cable advertising campaign.
Early voting, which includes mail-in ballots traditionally used by active-duty military, begins in many states this month.
“Look at the #BasketOfDeplorables in Pensacola Florida last night!” Hillary herself admitted that the remarks were “grossly generalistic” before she went ahead and said them anyway.
“Wow, Hillary Clinton was SO INSULTING to my supporters, millions of wonderful, hard-working people. Dangerous. Even for Republicans”.
Another poll showed two-thirds of Trump supporters think President Obama is a Muslim, and 59% believe (as Trump did and presumably still does) that he wasn’t born in the United States.
Sevugan said timing is also at play, though the focus on national security isn’t driven exclusively by the approaching September 11 anniversary.
She went on to say that “many of Trump’s supporters are hard-working Americans who just don’t feel like the economy or our political system are working for them”. “And from the Trump perspective, they need to shore this up”. I am doing better than any Democrat, he is doing worse than recent Republicans. “It’s not a matter of it we get hit, it’s a matter of when we get hit and how we respond to those threats. TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT.” This brought Trump’s total number of military endorsements to 120.
Trump praised his military supporters as veteran warriors and combat veterans.
National security will be a focus all week.
Still, the news organization faced criticism for its process. John McCain was not a war hero because he was captured.
She had been speaking at an LGBT event in New York Friday when she made the apparent gaffe.
Clinton has made similar comments in the past. “Those are people who we have to understand and empathize with as well”. “If (Putin) says great things about me, I’m going to say great things about him”.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks at a LBGT For Hillary Gala at the Cipriani Club, in New York, Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.
“From the start, Donald Trump has built his campaign on prejudice and paranoia”. It was aimed at rebutting Clinton’s arguments that she would be best positioned to lead the military and reassuring Republicans who have openly anxious that his provocative statements might undermine US alliances.
