Clinton says ‘Deplorables’ comment is ‘grossly generalistic’
The president of the Human Rights Campaign, Chad Griffin, called Republican nominee Donald Trump the “gravest threat” the LGBTQ community has faced in a presidential election.
Clinton faced major criticism Friday for calling “half” of Trump supporters part of a “basket of deplorables. the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it” at a fundraiser.
At the rally, Trump also defended his campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again”, which former President Bill Clinton recently suggested is a veiled message to white Southerners in particular because “the good old days. weren’t all that good in many ways”.
On Friday, Clinton, 68, was speaking at an LGBT gala fundraiser when she called numerous GOP candidate’s supporters “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it”.
Her comments were rebuked by Mr Trump’s team, with campaign manager Kellyanne Conway saying the comments were “slander” and had insulted to millions of Americans.
Well, Hillary Clinton might consider Trump supporters to be a “basket of deplorables”, but I suspect coming from the most dishonest, corrupt, and despicable politician in American history to ever run for the presidency, all those deplorable Trump supporters will wear that moniker like a badge of honor!
“It’s deplorable that he’s attacked a federal judge for his ‘Mexican heritage, ‘ bullied a Gold Star family due to their Muslim faith, and promoted the lie that our first black president is not a true American”, she said.
“I’m determined to bring our country together and make our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top”, Clinton said.
Hughes said that Clinton should admit she’s “done something wrong” by making the remarks. “I regret saying “half” – that was wrong”.
The Democratic Party candidate then said the other half of the billionaire mogul’s supporters were people who are desperate for change and feel abandoned by the government.
“According to the Post, the advice is contained in a memo, “‘Deplorable’ Comment Talking Points”, sent out Saturday afternoon to Democrats preparing for TV interviews or other appearances on Clinton’s behalf. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said this week, that the current US economic climate has left a lot of lower-income people behind and that their anger is real.
“So let me just say from the bottom of my heart: Hillary, they are not a basket of anything”. In the so-called apology, she didn’t actually say that she regretted calling a number of Trump’s backers racists, homophobes, xenophobes, and misogynists.
Trump argued that the remark revealed that Clinton is disconnected from struggling Americans.
When answering questions from reporters at a press conference on national security issues it would behoove a presidential candidate to project strength and vigor. After all, she specifically said that 50 percent of Trump’s supporters had the characteristics – racism, homophobia, xenophobia, sexism – that she mentioned in her speech.
“Look at the #BasketOfDeplorables in Pensacola Florida last night!”
Those attending the fundraiser on Friday were urged by Mrs Clinton to “stage an intervention” if they had friends considering voting for Mr Trump. “And she wouldn’t be prosecuted”.
Both Trump, a native New Yorker, and Clinton, who was senator from NY at the time of the attacks, have agreed to refrain from campaigning Sunday, continuing the tradition of setting aside partisan politics on the somber anniversary.
