Talgo completes final run in less than 12 hours
For which, railway had initiated Talgo trials on May 29, 2015 that was completed in three phases.
Talgo’s coaches may have been tried on the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route, but will first ply on the major Shatabdi routes of Indian Railways.
Railways will conduct the final Delhi-Mumbai trial run of the Spanish-made Talgo train at speeds of 150 kmph on 10 September.
The 1,384-km distance between the metropolitans takes usually 17 hours but the Talgo train could reduce it to just 12 hours. Currently, the super-fast Rajdhani Express train takes around 16 hours between the political capital and the financial capital of the country. “The lightweight Talgo train covered the distance between Delhi and Mumbai in 11 hours and 42 minutes in its final trial”. Spain’s Talgo train is expected to start at 2.45pm from New Delhi station on Saturday and scheduled to reach at Mumbai at 2.29am on Sunday, said a senior railway ministry official. He further said that today the trial was at the speed of 150/km/hr. It is lighter weighted, can negotiate curves and can also climb hills at a much faster speed in comparison to other trains.
In case of ultra high-speed technology, he said “Railways wants to develop it, implement it under Make in India to use it indigenously and to be able to export it also”.
Talgo is a Madrid-based Spanish leading manufacturer of semi-high speed (160-250 kmph) and high-speed (350 kmph) passenger trains, which are energy-efficient.
