Clinton: half of Trump supporters belong in ‘basket of deplorables’
Hillary Clinton verbally banished half of Donald Trump’s backers to a “basket of deplorables”, and the Republican presidential nominee quickly pounced, saying Saturday she had smeared many Americans and would pay a heavy political price.
“Someone who has insulted Muslims, has insulted a Gold Star family of an incredibly heroic Captain Khan, someone who has said he doesn’t want to let Muslims around the world even come to our country – that is a gift for Isis”, she added, using an alternative name for the group.

Indeed, some Republican strategists suggested that a campaign discussion of whether some of Trump’s supporters are racist – and, if so, how many – might be advantageous to Clinton. Trump has, of course, called for the deportation of 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US.
Trump tweeted that Clinton’s words would harm her standing in the election, and said in a statement that if he is elected president he would represent all Americans. Pence, the IN governor, said Clinton had insulted “hardworking Americans”.
Trump criticized US policy in Iraq from the days of Republican President George W. Bush, who ordered the American-led invasion in 2003 in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, al Qaeda attacks on the United States.
Hillary Clinton shook her head in disbelief when asked what she thought about Donald Trump agreeing to do an interview that was broadcast on Russian state television.
In this poll, Clinton has lost half of her 10 point August 9 lead in Pennsylvania.
The remarks have been harshly criticized by Republicans and Trump supporters. “On the other hand, let’s face it, over the last several years, President Putin has operated in ways that very much have been against our interests and I think we have to recognize that’s just a fact”. “If he doesn’t respect all Americans, how can he serve all Americans?”
She vowed: “I won’t stop calling out bigotry and racist rhetoric in this campaign”.

Some critics likened Clinton’s observation to 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” comment in which he said 47 percent of voters are dependent upon the government and would vote for President Barack Obama no matter what.
