Around the middle of the first quarter for most games, fans bean noticing a problem with their ESPN Fantasy Football scores.
The outage began around noon CDT on Sunday – just as nine National Football League games kicked off around the country.
ESPN sent a tweet at around 2 p.m. saying they were dealing with the “technical difficulties”. The company did not respond to CNNMoney’s request for additional information.
Fantasy sports is big business for Disney-owned ESPN, which also incorporates it into coverage of real games. We apologize for the inconvenience & are working to resolve the issue ASAP. In October of past year, the company said it had 7.1 million unique users of its fantasy football app, and that number has surely grown since then.
Agitated fans took to Twitter to voice their frustration, posting a string of hilarious “melt down” gifs as trouble persisted during the first slate of games.
While normally customers would just head to a competitor when a service goes down, ESPN’s fantasy players are essentially locked into the platform all season since they’ve already drafted teams and joined season-long leagues. The servers crashed out and the ESPN Fantasy site was unreachable for everyone. As millions of people across the country are realizing, the popular fantasy football destination has been experiencing issues, causing many to not be able to access the site.
