Russell Wilson’s injury leaves availability for Rams game in doubt
RENTON, Wash. (AP) Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes quarterback Russell Wilson will be able to play in Week 2 against Los Angeles despite suffering a sprained ankle in the opener against Miami.
The injury occurred when his ankle was accidentally stepped on by defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
NFL Network first reported Monday that Wilson’s injury was more severe than Wilson indicated Sunday, when limped through the twisted ankle sustained early in the second half to lead Seattle on a game-winning drive.
If Wilson can’t go next week against the Rams for whatever reason, undrafted rookie Trevone Boykin is in line to get the start. Wilson said the ankle will be okay.
Wilson averaged about 270 passing yards with a total of three touchdowns, two interceptions and a QBR of about 50 in two games against the Rams last season.
“We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds”, Baldwin says. “It’s not just his mental fortitude, but also his physical prowess and what he brings to the table in every facet”. As good as Seattle’s defense is, losing Wilson for a long stretch of games would be a crippling blow, especially since the team doesn’t have a proven backup waiting in the wings. But he let me know it wasn’t going to affect his play.
Wilson’s mobility was clearly hindered by the injury, showing none of his natural escapability or pocket movement. “Obviously, he showed that”.
