Browns’ RG3 breaks bone in shoulder, could miss season
Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III was placed on injured reserve Monday, a day after suffering a shoulder injury in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately, Griffin was injured on just such a hit, getting blasted by Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills as he belatedly ran out of bounds.
The Browns had the chance to select Wentz, but in all their infinite wisdom they traded back with the Eagles and made a decision to roll with veterans Griffin and Sunday’s starter, Josh McCown. “It’s unfortunate but it does happen in this sport”.
McCown had torched the Ravens when the teams met almost two months earlier. New Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III hurt his shoulder yesterday, and he may be out anywhere from eight games to the entire season. Griffin does not need surgery at this time, but will be evaluated in 3 to 4 weeks.
McCown played in eight games for the Browns previous year during their quarterback nadir of 2015.
But there’s no guarantee that will happen and the 26-year-old has sustained another setback to a career filled with promise when he burst into the National Football League as a dual-threat QB in 2012. “Hue Jackson is a ringmaster, so to speak”, Harbaugh said. He worked extremely hard. “I know what he is capable of doing, and we will tailor things to him”. I was trying to get out of bounds. “He knows how to play”. He went back for the final three plays of the game, handing the ball off three times.
“He wanted to be out there with his teammates”, Jackson said. “I don’t think we have to totally change our offense from what it has been”. We want to put a better product out there. “That’s a credit to Robert”.
Looking ahead to Week Two against the Ravens, McCown obliterated Baltimore for 457 yards on 36 of 51 passing and two touchdowns last season. This is not a good sign for the Browns, but the team does have a solid underrated quarterback in Josh McCown to come into the upcoming weeks and show what he is really worth. There are also a few free agents and trade targets that the Browns could look into. We don’t look at it as certainly just a two-year venture or a week-to-week venture. So I just think as long as he’s OK mentally with it, I don’t think it’ll happen again.
Jackson is running out of patience with center Cameron Erving, whose shotgun snap over Griffin’s head for a safety was the pivotal play Sunday. “He kind of just surprised me there”. The injuries haven’t helped. “It hurt pretty bad”. “‘It hasn’t gone well”.
Adding insult to injury, the Browns were beaten on Sunday by Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, a player they passed on taking and traded the No. 8 overall pick to Philadelphia.
Sure, it’s only one game.
Fantasy owners shouldn’t be ready to jump off the veteran tight end’s bandwagon just yet, as Barnidge’s fantasy stock should go up with quarterback Josh McCown set to take on the starting role.
