NRL to investigate Hayne and alleged bikie video
A video, posted on Snapchat following the Titans’ crashed out of the finals on Friday night, shows Bloomfield – a former Gold Coast under 20s player and alleged Hells Angels member – holding up a wad of cash to the camera and saying: “Sweet”.
Further footage also shows Hayne getting into a auto with a drink in his hand before blasting Eminem’s Lose Yourself.
“There were some people there that I knew and some people there I didn’t know, including Chris Bloomfield who I met for the first time”.
Hayne shrugs at the camera and says: “Cash money fam, cash money”.
“It was also not my voice shouting for a cigarette and I was not involved with any of the offensive comments subsequently added to this video”.
Another video, obtained by News Corp Australia, allegedly shows Hayne and Bloomfield in a moving auto, with Bloomfield driving while Hayne sits in the back seat rapping.
On Facebook, Hayne said “I take my responsibility as a role model very seriously”.
“This was a prank initiated by Bloomfield and was not meant to be taken seriously”.
“For me, that means trying my best to not offend people and not taking part in any illegal activity”.
“However, I can not help how people approach or film me”.
When announcing Norman’s punishment, the NRL’s Head of Integrity Nick Weeks said: “Whether it is drug possession, criminal associations or social media use, players understand the consequences that can flow from illegal or other unacceptable conduct”.
The Titans said players were entitled to hold end-of-season celebrations but admitted the club has learned a “powerful lesson” from the incident, and would be seeking advice from senior Gold Coast police involved in the recent crackdown on bikies on how players can keep their distance from criminal elements.
Jarryd Hayne has resonded to the controversy surrounding his appearance in a Snapchat video over the weekend.
The Titans said they had no problem with their players having break-up drinks at a function room and then at a team-mate’s home. The incident also comes as Tim Lafai and Siliva Havili face affray charges for a late night incident in Wollongong, where they were stood down, but later reinstated, by the club.
The Titans confirmed on Tuesday morning that they have been in contact with the NRL’s integrity unit over the footage, which also includes St George Illawarra- bound winger Nene MacDonald.
