Sonic Mania’s Collector’s Edition reportedly leaked – and it’s gorgeous

The Sonic Mania Collector’s edition, according to PlayWebGamez, was accidentally revealed early via an Amazon US listing.

There’s a decorative collector’s box housing the download key, itself inside a retro-designed case; there’s a replica Sega Genesis cartridge with a gold ring fastened to it; and a 12-inch statue of Sonic uses a tiny Genesis as a stand. Designed by Christian Whitehead, a Sonic mega fan who has produced well-liked remakes of several classic Sega Genesis Sonic games, Sonic Mania is the 16-bit adventure you’ve been waiting for since the late-’90s.

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Sega this past July announced two new Sonic the Hedgehog games at San Diego Comic-Con. The standard Sonic Mania edition pre-order will come at a later date.

The picture also lists the game as downloadable. The Collector’s Edition will cost $69.99 in the United States and in Canada $89.99 (Canadian dollars) and ships Spring 2017.

It’s safe to say that Sonic Mania is a game that has old-school Sonic fans more excited than they’ve been in a long time. “Sonic is a cultural icon and helped define gaming for a generation of gamers, and continues to do the same today”.
