Gen. Michael Hayden: Trump, Putin Faces of ‘Authoritarian Populism’
Donald Trump appears on stage at the CNN Republican Presidential Debate in Simi Valley, California on September 16, 2015.
It’s a dramatic role reversal, grounded partly in the shift that has occurred in U.S.
Trump told King he does not think the Russians were intervening in USA elections, a concern expressed by some US officials and by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
“Let’s not forget, Russian Federation went into Crimea on President (Barack) Obama’s watch”.
Stent, author of The Limits of Partnership, a history of the downward slide in relations between Russian Federation and the United States, noted that at the G-20 gathering in Australia two years ago, Putin had to sit alone at lunch and left early.
Clinton on Thursday said Trump’s comment was “not just unpatriotic and insulting to the people of our country, as well as to our commander in chief, it is scary”.

Three years previous, Obama’s then-secretary of State Hillary ClintonHillary Rodham ClintonGingrich: Clinton is falling apart Clinton: Trump has “made our job harder” to protect against ISIS Hispanic lawmakers see breakout chance to grow their ranks MORE had announced a so-called “reset” with Russian Federation – an attempt by the U.S.to improve relations damaged by the 2008 war between Russian Federation and Georgia.

Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton clashed over national security again on Friday, with Trump calling his Democratic rival “trigger-happy” and Clinton arguing his proposals would make the world a more unsafe place. Putin is a dictator, unlike Obama.

The hack of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), revealed in July and believed by many to be an attempt by the Russian government to interfere in the USA election, has led to cries for retaliation from both sides of the aisle. The Republican candidate again cast doubt on whether Russian Federation was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee, a belief at odds with US intelligence officials.
“Donald Trump has yet to express a condition which he would impose on Vladimir Putin for which he demands Putin’s actions before he gets a better relationship with the United States”, said Hayden. And of course, Hillary Clinton failed with her Russian Reset.
Democrats have sought to paint Trump as too friendly with Russian Federation, dubbing him the “pro-Kremlin” candidate.
In an interview with Bloomberg before the G-20 meetings, Putin derided the shock tactics of both Trump and Clinton. “Now, it would be easier for Romney to say that”.
How Putin has gotten that approval rating might be troubling for many Americans.
King this evening told CNN’s Erin Burnett that the podcast and his Politicking show are two entirely different things, and suggested Trump knows that, having previously participated in King’s podcast.
