Google’s new Chromecast Preview Program is now live
Do you own a Chromecast? If you are eager to get started using new features, enroll today, and you receive a notification when new firmware rolls out. Now, according to a new Chromecast support post, Google will soon let anyone enroll their Chromecast into a “Preview Program” for access to early and unreleased features… This means users in the program will get early access to new features and improvements, but it’s not a beta program so you won’t have to worry about loads of bugs and glitches ruining your Chromecast experience.
The objective of the program isn’t to dish out unstable beta features, per se. Once you are enrolled, under each supported device’s settings you will see an option for Preview Program. All of the previews are expected to be close-to-final to give you an idea of what to expect. You’ll also be able to turn off email notifications for new updates, though Google recommends keeping this on.
From your Android or iOS device, open the Google Cast app. While this news may not shock many since Android Police reported about the possibility of the program back in May, it is still exciting to see the program live and in the hands of consumers.
Public beta programs have become increasingly popular among big companies hoping to test out software.
In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu.
Both the first and second generation of Chromecast devices are eligible for the Preview Program, as is Chromecast audio, the audio-only streaming device for audio receivers and standalone speakers.
Opting into the Chromecast Preview Program is a relatively straightforward affair, as the support page explains. Go to settings, then navigate to Notifications and turn on “Preview email”.
