Giants meet with Jake Long for second time
Elway said the team will continue to evaluate adding to the offensive line.
Assuming he stays healthy, Long would be an excellent, experienced addition to the Falcons’ offensive line. There’s never a boring moment in today’s NFL and come this weekend, we could be talking about another high level player that Elway and co. have managed to snag in the 0ffseason.
1 overall draft pick – will reportedly meet with the Denver Broncos. He has been making the rounds, patiently considering his options as he tries to find the best fit. After five seasons in Florida, Long signed a four-year deal with the Rams but only completed two before his release.
As it stands, rookie Ty Sambrailo, a former Colorado State star, will open as the starting left tackle, with Chris Clark at right tackle.
Unfortunately for Long, he’s been hit with injuries throughout his career and has had two ACL tears requiring surgery.
Denver signed Ryan Harris after Clady’s damage to offer an skilled backup, and Sambrailo stepped into the beginning lineup and shortly impressed coach Gary Kubiak.
Long met with the New York Giants twice this offseason, including as recently as this week, but has not yet signed with the club – opening the door for the Broncos to make a pitch and discuss his injury history. Long has indicated he is willing to take his time before selecting the team he will play with in 2015. The left guard is Ben Garland, who hasn’t started a game since 2008 at Air Force, when he was a defensive lineman. Long tore his ACL twice within a year, the last coming in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs last October. He struggled in pass protecting before the injury.
