Bail doubled for Shawnee robbery suspect
Police said the Kansas City, Kansas, woman was putting her baby in her auto Sunday afternoon in Shawnee when two suspects hit her in the head from behind.
“You know our hearts and prayers go out to both of them for a speedy recovery”, said Major Dan Tennis of the Shawnee Police Department in a statement.
Police said the good Samaritan who was shot was initially listed in critical condition but was awake and alert Sunday.
It happened in Shawnee, Kansas, over the weekend, police told CNN.
Tennis said a good Samaritan was shot repeatedly after trying to help her.
Police interviewed and released another good Samaritan from De Soto, Kansas, who fatally shot John Simmons III, 28, of Kansas City, Mo.
The other suspect fled the scene, but was later caught by a K-9 team.
The suspect, 27-year-old Arthur Fred Wyatt III, made his first court appearance Wednesday via closed circuit TV in Johnson County. He pleaded not guilty and is being held in Shawnee jail.
The wounded good Samaritan remains hospitalized. In just seven hours, the campaign raised almost $30,000.
The woman who was attacked has been released from hospital and reunited with her baby.
Since the suspects’ motives for attacking the mother are unknown, police are still investigating the situation.
