Donald Cerrone gets new opponent for UFC 205
Following Lawler’s decision to withdraw from the event, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto is reporting that Kelvin Gastelum has agreed to face Cerrone. Cerrone was originally supposed to square off against Robbie Lawler at UFC 205, but the former welterweight champion decided that he would not be ready to return by then following a knockout loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201.
UFC welterweights Donald Cerrone and Kelvin Gastelum have agreed to fight at UFC 205 in New York City on November 12.
Cerrone is now riding a three-fight winning streak since dropping to welterweight. He is on a three-fight win streak. Cerrone, meanwhile, took out Ricky Story in August.
That left the promotion no other choice but to look elsewhere, even if it meant having to scrap another fight, as Gastelum was previously set to face Jorge Masvidal at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): “Latin America 3” Finale in Mexico City on November 5.
Cerrone has one of the most impressive records in the history of the UFC lightweight division. A former victor of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, Gastelum is coming off a decision win against Johny Hendricks at UFC 200. He has defeated Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Evan Dunham, Edson Barboza, Jim Miller, Eddie Alvarez, and Benson Henderson.
UFC 205 will take place at Madison Square Garden and is the first event in NY since a 1997 ban on professional mixed martial arts was lifted earlier this year. UFC 205 marks the Las Vegas-based promotion’s first-ever event in the Empire State.
