DNC Says It Was Hacked Again by Russians
Without providing details or proof, Brazile accused Russian state-sponsored agents of stealing the documents in an attempt to harm the Democratic Party and liberal groups to sway the outcome of November’s presidential election.
It follows a similar leak earlier this year, after the Democratic Party’s system was breached in April. This new information could be used to access top White House officials’ information.
More emails were released Tuesday and posted to WikiLeaks’ Twitter account.
Forbes reports that on Tuesday in London at the Future of Cyber Security Europe conference, Guccifer addressed cybersecurity experts through an unknown and remote transcriber.
“There’s one person who stands to benefit from these criminal acts, and that’s [Republican presidential nominee] Donald Trump”, the committee’s interim Chair Donna Brazile said.
“Not only has Trump embraced (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, he publicly encouraged further Russian espionage to help his campaign”, she said.
Brazile said the DNC’s lawyers are reviewing the documents and suggested some of the ones that could be released could have been “forged”.
It has not yet been unilaterally confirmed that Russian Federation is behind the hack, but over the summer, a USA official said there is “little doubt” the country is involved. Marshall also got in trouble in July during the first DNC leak for encouraging DNC communications staff to plant questions about Bernie Sanders’ faith.
The previous Guccifer 2.0 document dump led to the resignation of DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The most recent hack includes information on the party’s finances and personal contacts of donors.
The batch also contains official mobile phone numbers of Valerie Jarrett, who is current Senior Advisor to the President, and former Presidential advisers Rahm Emmanuel and Daniel Pfeiffer. Many took the comment as an invitation for Russian Federation to hack Clinton.
He told Motherboard.com in July: ‘I don’t like Russians and their foreign policy.
‘In exile or in prison. “Guccifer 2.0” wasn’t talking, but instead provided materials to an individual who spoke on behalf of the hacker.
