Nvidia Recalls Shield Tablets Due to Overheating Issue
That said, Nvidia is voluntarily recalling the 8-inch tablets sold between July 2014 and July 2015. Well, it could literally kill you.
Nvidia announced it is recalling its Shield tablets due to a potential fire hazard from the device’s inner battery. Gizmodo’s own Eric Limer said “it should probably be your next Android tablet no matter how much button-mashing you do”.
Put that slate down, Nvidia Shield Tablet users. The lithium-ion batteries were overheating, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
People will receive their replacement Shield tablet after registering for the recall, though Nvidia didn’t specify how long it will be before it arrives. Nvidia officials are telling customers to stop using the tablet, except to back up data or to participate in the recall. If it says “B01” next to “battery” you are okay and your tablet is not affected. And remember, this was a tablet that was supposed to support battery-intensive gameplay and video use.
First, ensure it is running the latest software: Go to Apps > About tablet > System Updates and verify that your program is dated July 1, 2015, or newer.
Nvidia didn’t expose Shield tablet device marketing in other sites, but a announcement on You can introduce.S. Consumer Product…
The recall doesn’t affect any other Nvidia devices or products.
More information on the recall and how to send yours in to Nvidia for a replacement is posted through here. There you should see one of two options: Y01 or B01.
