US officially recalls Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Meanwhile, shares of the tech giant Samsung Electronics Co Ltd have already opened higher, getting back some losses following news that the Samsung Scion was to join the board, Yahoo Tech reported.
However, not long after the phone hit the shelves, reports of its exploding or catching fire began to surface on social media. Although the recall has proved costly for Samsung, it was the right thing to do in the interest of consumers, and the long term reputation of the company. There have been a total of 9 smartphone related recalls so far. While battery fires happen because they have been damaged or punctured, the Note 7 phone batteries have not been touched.
The CPSC added that consumers can contact the wireless carrier, retail outlet or Samsung official website in order to “receive free of charge a new Galaxy Note 7 with a different battery, a refund or a new replacement device”. Note 7 owners need to contact Samsung and provide a number from the back of the phone to determine whether that unit is at risk.
One family in St. Petersburg, Florida, reported that a Galaxy Note 7 left charging in their Jeep had caught fire, destroying the vehicle.
“Any phone can explode. iPhone had this problem in 2015 and 2016”. Popkiller USB chargers and adapters were recalled in 2014, because of faulty circuitry, before there were any untoward incidents. Those who want to exchange their Note 7 with other Samsung phones can do so for a small fee. But its press releases didn’t tell consumers to stop using the device. However, removable batteries allowed Kyocera to replace only the batteries instead of the entire smartphones.
Earlier this month, Samsung said it would recall all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones equipped with batteries it found to be fire-prone and halted their sales in 10 markets, denting a revival of the firm’s mobile business.
The LG 830 Spyder was recalled in 2009.
“In an effort to minimize weight and volume, Samsung used a separator that was too thin and this gave rise to shorts which made the batteries get very hot and fail catastrophically”, Abruna says.
CPSC chairman Elliot Kaye said at a press conference. On Monday, Canada issued an official recall.
A new cellphone is on the recall list. In 2009, 160,000 Samsung Jitterbug cell phones were recalled as they were unable to make emergency calls in a no service area, and instead displayed a message “out of range, try again later”.
