Clinton: Trump Owes Obama Apology for ‘Birther’ Comments
On Friday he answered it, just saying that yes, President Obama was born in the United States.
“Now we all want to get back to making America strong and great again”, he said.
Trump, in his brief acknowledgment, tried to blame Hillary Clinton for starting the rumor in her 2008 primary campaign against her fellow Democrat. There is no evidence that that is true. Obama’s] birth certificate. Hillary is a birther”, he said then, adding that she “was unable to get [Mr. “Period”, Trump said at the opening of his newest hotel. “I finished it. You know what I mean”.
The remarks came at the tail-end of a media event that his campaign had ginned up interest in through interviews and press statements previewing a turnaround.
Trump was under increasing pressure to distance himself from the controversy, which helped fuel his rise but also aligned him with white nationalists and alienated many mainstream voters.
One of Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr., said Thursday that Miller’s statement “should be the definitive end” of questions about his father’s position. “We have to keep the suspense going, OK?”
“Who knows”, he told Blitzer when asked if he believes Obama is a citizen.
In a desperate effort to cover up their lie, the Donald Trump campaign put out a press release that provided proof that Hillary Clinton didn’t start the birther conspiracy. “There is no erasing it in history”. She added that Mr Trump is playing with the “worst impulses, the bigotry and bias” that lurks in the nation.
The birther idea, which he now denies, provided Trump with his entry into Republican politics and for years has defined his status as an “outsider” who is willing to challenge convention.
Asked in the Oval Office about the renewed controversy Friday, Obama gave the question short shrift and made a veiled dig at the U.S. media and its obsessive coverage of Trump. “I just don’t want to answer it yet”. “I have now removed any question about Mr. Obama’s qualification to hold the office of president, and I congratulate him and all his Muslim brethren on this proud day”.
In a March 2008 interview with “60 Minutes”, Clinton said she took then-Sen.
“President Obama’s successor can not and will not be the man who led the racist birther movement”.
Earlier, Clinton demanded Trump apologize to the president for bringing up the birther topic again. “Donald Trump is a disgusting fraud”.
The facts do not match Miller’s description. In August 2012, he was pushing the issue on Twitter. Someday I’ll write a book.
The Trump campaign defended those comments as a call for increased political activity, but the Clinton campaign said unequivocally that Trump’s comments were “dangerous” and irresponsible for a presidential candidate to make.
Obama issued his Hawaii birth certificate in 2011, partly in response to Trump’s jibes, but the issue has not died during Trump’s bid for the presidency.
I’d normally say that’s pretty on the nose as far as Election 2016 metaphors go, but can anything be too obvious in a world where Bob Roberts walks off the screen and into a competitive presidential race?
“I think her bodyguards should drop all weapons”.
