The Emmys are meant to celebrate the best in television, as prizes are handed out to the most prestigious projects seen throughout the year. Nominated for 11 Emmy awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, the program has already aired three seasons, with a fourth on its way.
Three of its stars – Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams – dominate the supporting actress category, while Peter Dinklage could win a third supporting actor trophy, but faces competition from co-star Kit Harington.
Following the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, the Emmys once again embraced more diversity among its nominees in the acting categories.

The all-time Emmy league table – which includes non-fiction – is topped by NBC comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live, with 48 awards. The question is though, will it pay off on television’s biggest night?
If “Thrones” is shut out on Sunday, FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” could conceivably pass it by.

Critics were shocked when Netflix’s prison comedy drama Orange is the New Black failed to pick up a single nomination. Ask Angela Lansbury, who was nominated 12 times from her starring role on “Murder She Wrote” and never took home one of the statues.
That nod went to Taraji P. Henson in the best actress in a drama category for her portrayal of family matriarch Cookie Lyon. Veep won previous year and could probably do it again, reports Vulture. The next closest competition for Wright is Homeland star Claire Danes (+350), who’s then followed by How to Get Away lead Viola Davis (+350). It’s her first time nominated for the award for her work on the Netflix freshmen series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Last year’s “Game of Thrones” top-drama victory might have been a sign of the difference the new approach made: Voters in the past have been stubbornly resistant to honoring fantasy or sci-fi shows, with “Lost” a rare exception. Other notable winners include Diane Warren, Margo Martindale, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Despite the notable powerhouse of actors in “The People v. O.J. Simpson”, a good handful are first-time nominees, including Courtney B. Vance, John Travolta, Sterling K. Brown and Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Season two of this cyber-hacking drama is nominated for six Emmys this year, including Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Lead Actor, so you should probably just watch the pilot already. The “Hold Up” singer’s visual album awarded her a total of four nominations from the Television Academy- two Creative Arts and two Primetimes.
