Chiefs lament miscues, Chargers lamenting overtime loss
San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen suffered a torn ACL in their season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Since Coach Reid’s arrival in KC, he has garnered three consecutive winning seasons, and to make it four in the parity driven National Football League, the Chiefs will have to win games such as the one they face on Sunday against a Division rival at home.
It was a whole different story in the second half of the game. Ware, starting in place of Jamaal Charles, who was inactive, produced 199 yards from scrimmage.
“I have the utmost respect for Alex”, Ware said.
“We knew we would have some learning to do with it being our first full game together”.
What do you think of the Kansas City Chiefs’ comeback?
It was a remarkable turnaround for the Chiefs.
The Houston Texans (1-0) are coming from a 23-14 win over the Chicago Bulls in Week 1. That setup a fourth-and-short at the Kansas City 43-yard line.
Talking about Favors, they wrote, “Favors is stout and long enough to defend the rim and bang with post scorers on the block, yet has the quickness and overall dexterity to chase rangy 4s and even contain ball handlers after switches”. “Our punt team was getting out there”. They showed a lot of character and grit, and the players didn’t seem overly pleased with themselves afterward, which speaks to the standards they hold themselves to and is a positive sign going forward.
Chiefs fans can expect to see veteran TE Antonio Gates, QB Phillip Rivers, and newly acquired WR Travis Benjamin try to give the Chargers an upset win on the road.
We, like most people, didn’t have much in the way of expectations for the Chargers in 2016, but that’s what makes football so wonderful: Training camp, preseason and Week 1 of the regular season are less about reality and all about hope.
The San Diego Chargers need as much help as possible because the AFC West is ultra competitive right now.
The Chiefs used their second timeout and the two-minute warning to stop the clock twice on the Chargers next-to-last drive while forcing a three-and-out for the Chargers. The Chiefs continued to drive down the field with great runs by Ware, and athletic catches from Kelce. Smith calmly completed six passes and marched his team 56 yards to the end zone, Santos hit his field goal and Ware his touchdown run, and the game was headed to overtime.
Chiefs’ Andy Reid: Last year showed us nothing is impossible – Arrowhead Pride Big Red oozing leadership here. “That hasn’t been a problem with him”.
Rivers had another nice game on Sunday, but this time against a team that has given him fits in the past. But I will tell you that (winning) doesn’t hurt you. He really was one of the positives in the first and second half.
Not that he wanted to dwell on his performance: “We have to watch the film and look at every play and analyze what we could have done better”, he said.
