Obama and Netanyahu to Meet in NY on Wednesday
However, Barak and other critics say that an even more generous deal could have been achieved if Netanyahu had not campaigned so publicly and vociferously against a nuclear agreement with Iran which was backed by US President Barack Obama.
On Thursday, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak criticised Netanyahu over the deal, saying he could have received more money if relations hadn’t been soured by Netanyahu’s belligerence.
“These are distortions and fabrications of interested parties”, Netanyahu said.
Earnest said the meeting would afford Obama and Netanyahu an opportunity to discuss “the strong ties between the United States and Israel”.
A senior level United States official revealed details about the negotiation process that led to the signing of the U.S. defense aid package for Israel. We also weren’t offered any special technologies. “Israel presented its needs as it perceived them according to different scenarios”, explained the USA official. The official rejected the claims that the package is actually compensation for Israel following the nuclear deal with Iran.
To offset the negative effects of a winding down of spending in domestic industries, Israeli arms companies such as Israel Military Industries Ltd, Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., and Rafael Advanced defence Systems Ltd. are looking into setting up subsidiaries in the U.S. or collaborating with American partners, TheMarker reported. Meanwhile, the Israeli official who signed the agreement also spoke out against the criticism voiced by many Israeli officials.
“Israel will receive $3.8 billion a year – an important contribution to our security but far less than what could have been obtained before the prime minister chose to blatantly interfere with U.S. politics”, Barak wrote in a Washington Post opinion piece. “You have to look at whether this is the correct response to the Israeli security challenges, and I believe it is”.
