Putin is my hero, says new Ukip leader
Diane James, Ukip’s new leader, did her first major TV interview as Ukip leader this morning.
It came as UKIP showed signs of deteriorating further into infighting amid the party’s conference in Bournemouth.
“It’s very shallow. It’s very safe”.
The Clacton MP “really isn’t doing anything for us” and must now decide if he supports the party’s aims, Mr Farage said. It wasn’t skinny dipping as I kept my underpants on. “I intend to do it again”.
Farage co-founded UKIP in 1993, growing it into Britain’s third party by the number of votes cast. I have been biting my tongue. If he says great things about me, I’m gonna say great things about him.
“Underneath, the engine, I’m afraid, has been breaking down”.
Nonetheless, UKIP is hoping to consolidate its popularity on the back of Brexit, boost its tally of MPs in the next general election slated for 2020, and replace a wobbling Labour Party as the official opposition.
Ms James hit the airwaves herself today in a bid to establish herself with the public as Ukip leader despite the on-going rows and the frequent continued appearances of Mr Farage.
Diane James and Douglas Carswell shook hands and smiled for the cameras as they posed for pictures ahead of his speech to activists.
Mr Carswell delivered his latest salvo in an appearance on the Sky News Murnaghan programme.
He added that he would not quit UKIP, even though Nigel Farage suggested it was time for him to go.
He said he would remain active in political life, with plans to travel across Europe to meet similar political movements, but would not seek to influence the new UKIP leader.
The animosity between Mr Farage and Mr Carswell, who defected to Ukip from the Conservatives, has been an open wound in the party for years. Andrew then summed up by saying, your heroes are Putin, Churchill and Thatcher.
James clarified her position, saying: “I do admire him, he’s a very strong leader, he’s putting Russian Federation first”.
“We are the only party 100 per cent committed to Brexit”.
