Bradford leads Vikings over Packers 17-14 in Minnesota debut
RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings: After back-to-back hard performances to open the season, Peterson was helped off the field with a torn meniscus.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said after the game Peterson would have an MRI on Monday.
He told the station he has not yet ruled out Peterson for the game Sunday against Carolina and that the team was still exploring all the scenarios to treat the star running back.
Peterson, the 2012 NFL MVP, was injured in the third quarter of Minnesota’s 17-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night on a 5-yard run, his longest of the night.
The 2015 National Football League rushing leader, who had just 19 carries for 31 yards last week against Tennessee, was injured on his longest run of the night. He began to find a groove throwing the ball late, but Bradford was the better quarterback on this night.
Defensive tackle Letroy Guion exited in the second quarter with a knee injury, but the Packers weathered his loss to hold Minnesota to only 22 carries for 30 yards (1.4 yards per attempt).
WR Golden Tate, Detroit Lions: Catching two of nine targets for 13 yards is not going to cut it. How they scored: Bradford hit Rudolph and Adam Thielen on back-to-back passes for 31 yards. Aaron Rodgers found Jordy Nelson in the flat for a 1-yard touchdown pass, capping off a drive down a short field thanks to a blocked Jeff Locke punt by wide receiver Ty Montgomery. “These guys have had my back from day one”.
However, Guion said team doctors believe there was no damage to his ACL and surgery will not be required.
The Green Bay Packers got back Jordy Nelson and signed Jared Cook in free agency, but two weeks into the 2016 regular season their offense looks a lot like previous year. The previous drive was killed when Brian Robison knocked the ball out of the hands of Rodgers, who ran for 29 yards and a touchdown. “We have some things to work out – and I’m really sick of having to say that”. “He just kept getting open (tonight)”.
The Packers were backed up near their own end zone on their first possession of the game, and the full-throated crowd created a din that rivaled anything that was heard at the Metrodome.
The Packers’ defense, which already played without cornerback Sam Shields (concussion), also lost safety Morgan Burnett to a hamstring injury.
“When quarterbacks and receivers are on time”, Randall said, “they’re very tough to stop”.
“There were definitely times, especially after big plays, where it was hard”, Bradford said.
