Angela Lansbury revives ‘Beauty and the Beast’ role in NY
Angela Lansbury will always be Mrs Potts to us. On Sunday, a special screening of Beauty and the Beast took place ahead of the film’s 25th anniversary release, and fans in attendance were treated to something even more special as Lansbury herself took to the stage afterward to perform the titular song. Angela Lansbury knows that the original from 1991 has everlasting life and will be enjoyed by countless audiences for many years.
Before the film’s release, Dame Angela recorded the song in just one take, which is the take that was ultimately used in the film.
“Run along and get in the cupboard, Chip”, the “Murder, She Wrote” star said at the end of her song. “Night love.” Be right back, crying all the tears. Emma Thompson is playing Mrs. Potts this time, and surely her singing chops are up to snuff, but it remains to be seen how the music will be updated for the live-action adaptation. The song won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy Award.
There’s nothing like hearing a Disney song performed by the OG cast member!
Lansbury voiced the motherly teapot for the 1991 film, which also featured the voices of Paige O’Hara (Belle), Robby Benson (Beast) and Jesse Corti (Lefou).
“Among the movies I will be remembered for, I’d say this is number one or two”, she told blogger Flicks and the City. The reminisced about the show’s impact 25 years later.
