Rio Paralympics closes with cyclist tribute

And Cundy, now a seven-time Paralympic champion, believes ParalympicsGB can build on the phenomenal success of Rio 2016.
The six athletes include Parksville resident and wheelchair racer Michelle Stilwell, who is also a member of the legislative assembly and the minister of social development in Clark’s cabinet.
China won the most medals in this year’s Games, with a total 239, out of which 107 were gold.
Meanwhile Ilse Hayes added her second silver of the Paralympics with an excellent second-place finish in the women’s 400m T13 race, while Hilton Langenhoven also earned his second medal (first one was a gold) with a silver in the 200m T12 final. In the same race in which Du Toit won his first gold, the T37 100m sprint, fellow SA paralympian Fanie van der Merwe emerged with the bronze medal.
“I expected the temperature to go up, and the race went exactly the way I had imagined”.
The IPC said it believes this is the first death in a Paralympics.
“But then we didn’t think a medal haul like Beijing (in 2008) was going to be possible, like London (2012)”.
Mehrzadselakjani later said: “When we heard this news yesterday we were very shocked”. The Fourth to tenth positions were taken by the US, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy and Poland.
“We’ve maintained that (top five) record since 1992, I could not be more proud of them”. Almost 4,500 athletes from 170 countries competed for 528 medal sets in 22 sports.
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on August 7 its decision to ban the membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee. Russian Federation would have struggled to get near them in those sports.
“You kept turning on the TV in the athletes village to see athletics winning, swimming winning, archery winning”.
“The performances have been outstanding”.
“Show people what we’re able to do, rather than what we’re not able to do”.
“The passing of Bahman Golbarnezhad has affected us all and left the whole Paralympic movement united in grief”.
Head of the Egyptian mission to the Paralympic games Hayat Khatab telephoned Sports Minister Khaled Abd el-Aziz and conveyed the players’ discontent over the media ignoring their matches and not broadcasting live coverage of the games.
