Irish UFC Fighter Joe Duffy Says He’ll Beat Conor McGregor
Joseph Duffy will headline the UFC’s return to Ireland when he takes on lightweight Dustin Poirier in the main event in Dublin.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to return to Dublin on October 24, but it’s not going to be the enormous Conor McGregor homecoming event that many Irish fans had hoped.
Duffy (14-1), A native of Donegal, Ireland, is widely known as the last man to defeat current interim UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor when he slapped on a tight armbar just 38 seconds into their Cage Warrios FC 39 matchup back in 2010.
Poirier (18-4) will look to extend his 2-0 record in the UFC lightweight division. The 27-year-old submitted Ivan Jorge at UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow, Scotland, after hurting him on the feet, and he’s now stopped three straight fights in the first round. He is the last man to best McGregor when the two were competing against one another before moving to the UFC. Duffy will face Dustin Poirier who is ranked #14 in the official UFC rankings.
UFC officials announced the pairing on Wednesday. Should McGregor win this win, well then a potential bout with Duffy in Croke Park could be the biggest fight in UFC history. That’s where we’re all striving to be.
“I’m pretty confident in my game”. “I started it before I fought Sam Stout, but I think it’s really cool that he brings it to light”. I believe I would beat Conor.
