Bucks agree to extension with Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Greek Freak is staying in Milwaukee.. Because he’s so young, Antetokounmpo will be early in his prime when he hits unrestricted free agency in 2021 at age 26.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that the contract was less than the maximum.
Instead, the Bucks locked Antetokounmpo in on a four-year extension for slightly less than the value of this year’s maximum contract for players with his experience. Giannis was the 15th overall pick in the 2013 National Basketball Association draft and averaged 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds. Beyond that, he will be paid like the star they hope he’s going to become. The 6-foot-11 forward averaged career bests across with board with 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds. Although the Bucks haven’t had much winning success during his three seasons in the league, it was smart of the franchise to lock up Antetokounmpo before he reached his potential and demanded more money. His versatility is unparalleled.
In addition, he collected five triple-doubles down the stretch, the first player in Milwaukee Bucks history to record the feat.
Antetokounmpo has flashed serious potential in three National Basketball Association seasons, but what’s nuts is he’s not even close to being fully developed. When taken with the slight increase in usage rate that comes with being a point guard (24.2 percent after the All-Star break, 21.4 percent before), the new role clearly suited Antetokounmpo. There’s no telling what a finished product might look like.
Milwaukee added to its core this summer, bringing in a slew of veterans, including Matthew Dellavedova, Mirza Teletovic, and re-signing center Miles Plumlee.
