TCC will have college fair for ITT students

Luckes said she was shocked to learn that ITT Tech is charging students to obtain their transcripts.
ITT Technical Institute closed all campuses nationwide after an August 25 order from the U.S. Department of Education barred the school from enrolling students receiving federal financial aid. “Their current credits might not be as marketable as they want it to be, but to the individual Hoosier who has chosen to go to school, that is not worthless”. That group was assembled by Higher Education Commissioner Teresa Lubbers and also includes leaders from INdiana Wesleyan University, Harrison College and Oakland City University.
The College of Western Idaho met with about 30 students at its Ada County Center on Monday night.
The colleges received feedback from other college students on the plan.
Help is on the way for more than 1,000 ITT Tech students in IN that were left in the dust after the school unexpectedly closed last week.
The state is pledging assistance in obtaining loan forgiveness for students that qualify.
“As a regionally accredited, state-supported University, we are constrained by guidelines that sometimes limit our ability to transfer all credits from all institutions”.
“We really don’t want them to have wasted their time and money”, King said.
– Gateway will also waive its credit for prior learning assessment and credit for prior learning course cost for these students up until the first day of the college’s spring 2017 semester.
“The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools determined that ITT ‘is not in compliance, and is unlikely to become in compliance with Accreditation Criteria, ‘ ” U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King said in a blog addressing ITT students.
HU-UC’s virtual campus allows former ITT students the ability to complete their academic programs without leaving home.
