Josh Norman calls NFL’s new postgame drug testing ‘stupid’
Not Redskins cornerback Josh Norman.
Beckham just needs to play his game too this time, no matter how much of a thorn Norman is in his side. “I think we were 15-and-0 previous year when I was with Carolina – well, going into it trying to be 15-and-0 – that was a team that was trying to get past”.
“He’s a good player”. “I didn’t know we were planning on anything”. Beckham needs to stick to football and avoid getting caught up in any emotional baiting by Norman.
While he may not be saying anything to provoke Norman, Beckham insists his game won’t change. The Giants lost the game, 20-14. Last season, with Norman playing for the Panthers, the two players battled throughout the game, with OJB receiving three personal fouls – and an eventual one-game ban – to Norman’s two. “I’m sure he didn’t want it to happen, just like nobody else did”.
“Honestly there really is a bigger concern”, Beckham said. It’s another week, it’s a new opponent, fresh game plan going out there trying to attack it the best we possibly can. “There’s going to be pressure, there’s going to be expectations, there’s going to be failures, I’m going to throw picks”, he said. “I’m focused on winning, nothing more, nothing less”.
“God tells us to forgive all, so I’m working on that”, Norman told reporters Wednesday. If you don’t come up with a W, it’s really all for nothing. This could be the game they get their first turnover, and the combo of Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul get to QB Kirk Cousins, who has struggled so far this season. It’s insane. I don’t have anything left in the tank, yet they want you to drug test.
“Wherever I go, wherever I line up, whoever is over there, it’s my job, the same way it would be whoever’s job it is to stop me, my job is to win over there, ” said Beckham, clearly prepared for the array of Norman questions.
But if Washington’s coaching staff tells Norman to cover Beckham Jr., he doesn’t “shy away from anybody”. You can’t go back.
The two continued to exchange works through the media all summer, especially when Norman made the move to Washington, meaning he was on a team that would play Beckham and the Giants twice per season. I try to make my own. You take the good and the bad and you learn from it.
If Norman shadows Beckham, that could open up things for Victor Cruz and rookie Sterling Shepard, who have eight and 11 catches, respectively. “They can take a stupid drug test”, there is something to be said about giving anybody – rich athletes or not – a little room to breathe. Norman said. “Shoot man, that’s the competitor that’s inside of me, man”. “That is definitely the plan, to understand what is going on from a leadership perspective and going to the game understanding what is happening and being able to diffuse – not just Odell and holding him back – but being able to, if things go awry, being able to talk to both parties and being like, ‘Hey guys, this is bigger than just us'”.
