Xbox One Project Scorpio Will Run Microsoft Games at Native 4K
Loftis stated that any games they are making that they are launching in the Scorpio time frame, they ensure they can natively render at 4K, based on the report of USA Today.
Microsoft says the new Scorpio hardware will sport a better GPU that can handle 4K resolution gaming at 60 Hz, plus six teraflops of computing capability.
Microsoft’s recently released Xbox One S console features a 4K Blu-ray player, distancing itself from current PlayStation 4 consoles and the upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro.
While both console giants advertise 4K gaming, they are not similar in their approach. It is not native 4K but one that is reportedly a big improvement over 1080p.
“When we announced Project Scorpio at E3, to do this kind of mid-console upgrade, and Sony clearly had their plans, which were very similar”.
“I know that 4.2 teraflops is not enough to do true 4K”, he added.
With the topic on the horizon, Shannon Loftis, Microsoft Studio’s Publishing general manager, explained their plans for first-party video games over the Scorpio release window. According to Penello, Scorpio’s specifications are a direct result of developer feedback.
The game won’t be out until February 2017, but developers Guerrilla Games have said that Horizon Zero Dawn will be acceptably close to native 4K when speaking in a recent Q&A. “But clearly people are seeing something in it”, he pretty clearly said during this interview, basically admitting they’re being more aggressive because they have market shares to gain back, although, in later lines, he keeps saying Microsoft isn’t changing because of this but is always following its line of making people understand differences between Xbox and PlayStation. Sony wanted to use the technology in the most efficient and cost effective way.
Elsewhere, Penello was also asked about the price of the Xbox One Scorpio, and whether it would be more or less expensive than the PS4 Pro.
The advantage for Scorpio will present itself when it will be the only machine in the console space capable of achieving that high pixel count.
“I saw some data that really influenced me”, said House.
