Officials suspend search for 3 boaters in Lake Superior
Linda Carman, 54, and her 22-year-old son, Nathan Carman, have been missing since they departed Ram’s Point Marina in Point Judith on Saturday evening in the boat Chicken Pox, according to the Coast Guard. However, the agency said it’s not part of Tuesday’s search efforts. Later on Monday night, Coastal Security Police, Mangaluru informed Coast Guard Karnataka regarding the incident. While five fishers in the boat were rescued by travellers in another boat, a search has been launched by the Coast Guard for the missing fisherman.
As of Monday morning, the Coast Guard was continuing the search with the cutter Bonito and aircraft. “Our very deepest condolences go out to the families of these individuals”.
The boat was in the vicinity of the Keweenaw Peninsula on Saturday, but did not return Saturday night. Landing parties, equipped with binoculars and maps, were also dispatched from the hovercraft to search along the coast and the adjacent sea areas.
Keith Karvonen, identified as one of the two adults, was on board a 14-foot fishing boat with the boy and his father. Authorities say the truck and trailer for the boat they were in was found at a boat lunch near Chassell.
