Indiana State Police say 37-year-old Nikki K. Reed died instantly when the vehicle crashed Saturday afternoon near the Jennings-Ripley County line in southeast Indiana.
When the trooper arrived he found a male with leg injuries.
Police said the scene of the crash was well off U.S. 50 and not immediately visible from the road.
An investigation determined that at some point Saturday afternoon, the boyfriend lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road. He also located a deceased woman in the vehicle, which was located well off the roadway in a wooded area and was not visible from the roadway. If it hadn’t hit the tree, it would have ended up in a pond, troopers said.
They said Bell sustained injuries to his legs and it took him several days to crawl back to the road.
