Kiefer Sutherland will ‘never’ return as Jack Bauer on ’24’
With the presidential elections as a backdrop, ABC has decided on an opportune time to premiere their latest political drama Designated Survivor. Orrin Hatch took on the role of designated survivor in January while the country’s top leaders gathered to watch President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union Address.
“David Guggenheim, who wrote this Designated Survivor, tells three handsome story lines at the same time”, he continued.
It had better be happening, because Designated is one of the few fall shows with an original premise and a big TV star whom viewers seem curious to check out.
“You may be right”, Kirkman tells him.
Or, in short, the President and every single Congressmen are blown to bits during the State of the Union and Kiefer Sutherland becomes the de facto Commander in Chief. An explosion rocks the Capitol, killing everyone inside, and bingo bango Kiefer Sutherland is the president now. If the President and the Vice-President were to die, then the surviving highest official in line, possibly the “designated survivor”, would become the acting President of the US under the Presidential Succession Act. He had been named the “designated survivor”, a person chosen before hand to fill the president’s shoes, should a instance such as this occurs. Then he reprised his role as Jack Bauer in a comeback miniseries, “24: Live Another Day” in 2014, but that only picked up a trio of Creative Arts Emmy nominations.
“Designated Survivor” is from The Mark Gordon Company and ABC Studios.
The practice of selecting a designated survivor became more formal and important after 9/11.
Where, when and how can you catch the series premiere of ABC’s new drama Designated Survivor? Maggie Q plays an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who is investigating this attack and believes that the killers have not yet finished. His wife, played by Natascha McElhone (our first clue that Kirkman has something going for him, if someone like Natascha McElhone is interested in him), says things like, “Is this even happening?”
