Mom overdoses inside store with toddler in MA
The heartbreaking video shows the 2-year-old girl crying as her mother lay unconscious in the middle of a store aisle in MA.
The footage of the 2-year-old crying as her mother lies on the floor of Family Dollar store in Lawrence has attracted widespread attention online.
Police said no other children are in the care of that woman, and they expect her to be charged by the end of the week.
Authorities say they found drug paraphernalia in the woman’s bag.
Store worker Nicaurys Anziani claims the mother and daughter only had been in the store a short time before the woman fell and the little girl was left alone “crying and crying and crying”.
Interestingly, the video of McGowen’s overdose brings to mind another powerful image of drug abuse that was shared just recently by OH law enforcement.
A store clerk called 911 and paramedics administered Narcan, which is used to treat opiate overdoses.
The mother had collapsed from an apparent drug overdose, according to WBZ-TV.
“To put a child in such a situation shows how strong the addiction is”, Lawrence Police Capt. Roy Vasque tells the Eagle-Tribune.
Video of a heroin addict allegedly overdosing in a MA discount store earlier this week is the strongest piece of evidence in an upcoming child endangerment case against her. The toddler is in protective custody. Police said the mother, a New Hampshire resident, did survive.
Overdose cases involving children only account for about 10 percent of the overdoses police respond to in Lawrence.
With the region in the grips of an opioid epidemic, Vasque said addicts are commonly warned they are placing their children in danger.
