Tarrant County has first patient infected with Zika virus in Miami
On the same day officials in Florida declared the Wynwood section of Miami, “ground zero” for the Zika virus in the state, no longer “active” for local transmission, officials from a state halfway across the country expressed concerns over a “pending disaster” involving the mosquito-borne infection. It is to be noted that Scott will be also participating in the event to encourage Floridians to visit local restaurants and businesses.
Federal officials have spent the summer spraying and fumigating to try to rid the area of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that carries Zika, since the virus first appeared there in July. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if no Zika virus cases are reported in a region for 45 consecutive days, or three mosquito incubation periods, then the area is regarded to be free of Zika virus transmission.
“It’s a striking result”, CDC Director Tom Frieden tells Yahoo Finance at the Concordia Summit in New York City. “We could see additional cases”, he warned. Business owners pressured Scott to do something about the trendy arts neighborhood’s new stigma.
If they are serious about getting something done, they won’t leave Washington until there is money for Zika.
To help states expand access to Zika testing and reduce the amount of time to receive results, CDC has sent materials to help them expand lab capacity and perform testing to detect both current and recent cases of Zika virus infection.
Scott said officials are working to stop Zika’s spread in Miami Beach. In August, airfare prices to Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport fell 17 percent.
The other Miami-Dade case is outside that zone and is being investigated.
The CDC travel advisory for Miami Beach remains in place.
Such travel-related Zika cases made up nine of the 10 newly reported infections.
A plane contracted by Miami-Dade County mosquito control officials sprayed naled over South Beach on Sunday.
“They tell you that you can’t eat sushi, and they tell you that you can’t eat soft cheese, and they tell that you can’t drink, right? The public was stuck in the middle, misinformed and afraid”, Stern said.
Aside from being cautious about the effects of the pesticide to their health, protesters also questioned whether the virus may really cause birth defects on new born children thus, demanding a stop to pesticide spraying on Sunday.
