Federal Bureau of Investigation releases image of two men wanted in connection with NYC bombing
Investigators only wish to speak with these men and recover the luggage that they took.
Four law enforcement sources tell NBC News that the wife of alleged New York bomber Ahmad Rahami is en route to the New York City area later tonight or overnight.
“They’re not in any jeopardy of being arrested”, Jim Watters, chief of the New York Police Department’s counterterrorism unit, said yesterday. “We have no reason to believe they’re connected”.
According to the F.B.I., the pair saw a piece of luggage on the sidewalk, removed an improvised explosive device from the luggage, and then left leaving the device behind but taking the luggage.
“In the near future, it is our intention to bring the defendant to federal district court of the southern district of NY, which has jurisdiction over the Manhattan neighborhood where more than 30 innocent people were wounded and countless others were gravely endangered by his bombs”, said U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Police have not confirmed whether these two men are the same men who law enforcement officials are now seeking for further investigation. “I still have my nine lives, I guess, and I’m going to keep trying to live them well”.
Ahmad Khan Rahami, an Afghan-born American, was charged on Tuesday and will be transported to Manhattan to face the charges, said federal prosecutors in NY. He stops, appears to unzip and fidget with something inside the bag – a pressure-cooker bomb, according to authorities. Investigators believe she left the USA for Pakistan in June.
Ahmad Rahami – in a handwritten screed found on him and released by prosecutors – made references to Osama bin Laden, American-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and former Army officer Nidal Hasan, who went on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas.
The 28-year-old man was captured following a shootout with police in New Jersey on Monday in the wake of three bombing incidents.
